Midnight Sun or Northern Lights? A Quick Pro/Con for when to visit Iceland

If you're having some trouble deciding when to visit Iceland, I wanted to do a quick benefits breakdown of each season. I've been in June during the midnight sun and in September (which was also pretty lovely - mostly good weather, easy travel, and scored northern lights!)

Midnight Sun (June/July)

4 Pros:

  • Ability to hike/explore all day - 9am to midnight is not uncommon
  • Easily travel across the entire country, delays minimal
  • Tours are fully operational
  • Warm-ish (but still expect wind depending on location)

3 Cons:

  • Most crowded (though you'll only feel this in the capital and at certain locations)
  • Most expensive time to visit
  • Long days can get exhausting (and forgetting to eat ha!)

Northern Lights

4 Pros:

  • For photography, long golden hour
  • Get to experience the northern lights
  • Less crowded/expensive
  • Have a unique experience

4 Cons:

  • Quite cold. Okay, potentially very cold
  • Only 4-5 hours of daylight (though October and March will have far more)
  • Travel plans can easily get upended
  • Highlands off limits outside of tours, probably won't drive around the country

Howdy y'all! It's been a while. Life has been hectic with multiple trips across North America since our Costa Rica trip. But I'm happy to be home in Denver and enjoying our beautiful weather this spring. And after getting hurt last summer, I'm really focusing on getting into shape. Being in your mid-30's, I'm realizing I'm not as bulletproof as I thought I was. I was recently on the Hikes and Mics podcast, which will be released in two weeks. Excited to share that with you all! What's inside:...

After spending 16 days exploring Costa Rica, it has quickly risen to the top of my travel pyramid. From the kindness of the people to the natural landscapes of waterfalls, volcanoes, and beaches, to the lively wildlife, I felt transported to another world. I can’t say this for many trips, but this one went off without a hitch, aside from some unseasonal gloom and rain. Still, even with a multitude of research and reading Reddit threads, there were still aspects of Costa Rica you have to...

Happy 2026! This month is flying by, and it's been extra fast with final wedding plans! Yep, you read that right. Jaimie and I are getting married next Monday. *cue fireworks* Not that wedding plan is ever easy, but we're doing it in Costa Rica, so logistics are a bit complicated. Thankfully, we have an amazing wedding planner down there who is making it so much better. (Looking to get married in CR?? Heidy Quesada is incredible!) Next item up: I have about 30 calendars that NEED to be sold....
